pan and scan same as full screen?

what exactly is the difference between pan and scan and full screen? are they the same? are they both 4:3? i am confused about this.

and is wide screen=letterboxing, which are 16:9?

panscan is not the same as fullscreen
if you play a movie in fullscreen you still should see the black bars on top and bottom.
panscan magnifies the movie so that they dissapear but you will loose part of the moviepicture at the left and right.

letterbox means the movie is 4:3 but it still can containe a widescreen movie. the difference is that the information of the
black bars on top and bottom is fully maintained in the movie code
and the movie is non anamorphic stored

    hope this helps
