    video conversion help

hey guys, i've got a video file that says it's an .avi file but when i try to convert the "avi" file to mpeg, the program i use says it's not an avi.

i also tried tmpgenc to convert it, but the video doesn't show up when i convert it.

i don't even know what kind of avi file this is

i had to download something called ffdshow to successfully watch it on my computer.

    help!

    tia

    1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

You'll have to install the DivX v.5.02 (or higher) video codec and an.AC3 audio filter in order for your system to recognize this video. Once you've done this, then in TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...
