saving tv capture images to mpegs?

I am trying to record from my tv capture card and save the files as mpegs does anyone know what software I need?

Are you, as yet, able to capture anything in any format?

Yes, I can record images and sound with moviemaker, but this only saves as .wmf format.

Additionally, although it will be in .AVI format rather than MPEG1 or MPEG2, you can use the capture capabilities of VirtualDub.
