Black video

I hope this is the right place to ask this.
I have an intresting problem I just devloped, for some reason any video I open, avi or mpg, 99% of the time I get only blach where the video should be, it seems to work randomly.
Now here is the wierd part, if any window is open over the video window and not completly covering it, I can see the video through any black on the overlaying window..... Such as a browser window open over a video I can see the video through the text on the window, I can also open a paint program and fill it with black and see the video through it.
Any idea how I can fix this? Or even what the problem actually is?

1) Does this happen with ANY player you use to playback videos, or only one?

If only one, which one?

If only one, see if there is an available setting for turning on/off "Overlay", or possibly, "hardware acceleration"...
