    Can't Play AVI File

    Hi All,
    I'm back again. Figured as long as I'm here I might as well get both my big questions out there. OK, here's my other problem...

    A friend sent me an avi file. The file name is snowfundivx505.avi.

    No matter what I try, I can't get it to play. When I try to play it in Windows Media Player I get a message saying the format is not supported.

    I thought maybe I needed to install the divx5 codec, so I downloaded it from the DIVX web site and installed, rebooted, but still no happiness....

    Is there something else I could try? I emailed him, but he knows less about this stuff than I do, and all he could say is "Well it plays for me...." (Yea I know, good answer huh?)

    Well hopefully someone here can help me out on this issue also....

    Thanks

    Load the file into virtualdub

    1) File-->File Information
    2) Post here everything you see (a screen capture would be nice)

    If it is a screen capture, remember to make it .jpg and under 100k
    FFDShow filters
    Guliverkli's Media Player Classic

      Thats part of the problem

      The trouble is, it won't load into Virtual Dub, Tmpeg, or any of the other editing programs I have tried. When I tried to load it into VD I got the following message:

      cannot determine file type snowfundivx505.avi
