I have several avi files which are too big to fit on one CD. I've tried different settings in Virtual Dub to reduce the file size without success. They are 512 X 384 29.97 fps Divx 5.0.2 codec, with 48Khz, stereo, 128 kbps mp3 audio. Any help much appreciated
How To Reduce File Size Of AVI In Virtual Dub

change the bitrate. this is where a bitrate calculator helps. depending on the size of your avi you can also split the file in 2 and put each part on 1 cd. this is what i usually do -
If the required amount of reduction is not significant, you COULD crop off the end credits of the movie file and end up with a final file that will fit on one CD. Virtualdub (or any of its variants, like nandub and VirtualdubMod) will do the job well.

Sorry Enchanter,
I have edited the post which you just didnot like.
Mean while what you have posted is
"Why 650KBps? "
Ans:1B=8bits.650KB=650*8Kbps=5200kbps.So huge.
Note:I have no intention to insult you, though posted the correct value.Anything is better than nothingComment

I was merely stating that the use of a bitrate calculator will yield a more accurate bitrate value, compared to an "estimated bitrate range". Let's not steer away from the main topic any more than we have.Comment

to millicat and enchanter....
before you follow enchanters advice to crop the
credits to fit it on cd make sure that you are not
dealing with a videofile that contains a mp3 audiostream
with a VARIABLE bitrate......
you might end up with a movie slightly out of sync.
the normal virtual dub and vidub mod will warn you anyway.....
if you are unsure I recommend to download the
vdub_mp3_freeze.zip
from here
(scroll down!!)
simple place that little executable into the folder where
your normal virtualdub resides
by doubleclicking on that an alternative version capable of mp3 VBR will start
you might also be inclined to try the "nandub sbc"version
to alter filesize of a movie... it has enhanced capabilities to help you without dergrading quality too much...
by the way the credits belong to a movie in my opinion and should not be cut out!!

VirtualdubMod and Nandub can handle VBR MP3 streams by the way. Yes, I should have mentioned only those two in my initial posting. My bad.

How exactly? I am intrigued.Comment

the download linkpage supplies sufficient explanation...
"Modified version of NanDub that includes a bitrate calculator. Video length and audio data are read from sources and calculated bitrate is set directly to NanDub. You'll need to install the original NanDub first and then overwrite the files in the NanDub directory with the modified files in NanDub+BRC. "Comment
