MP4 files bothering me

Hi,
I have been away for a while from the world ofdigital video and it seems alot has changed!!
i ended up downloading these MP4 files, yes it MP4 extension!?!?
Now only real player plays these files and WMP 6.0 does not, any way i can play them in WMP 6.0??
Other question is that i want to join them (ya newsgroup people wud know ) but i havent been able to find a utility that does so?? any suggestions guys??

MP4 I think is DivX format, go to http://www.divx.com and download there codec and install, you should be able to play the files then, if not, go to www.vcdhelp.com and get a DivX codec from there.
DivX files are about 75% less than an Mpeg file, Of about that?

I assume that your file carriing a mp4 suffix
where created with the ms mpeg4 codec....
these codecs can be downloaded at microsoft homepage
they are also included in tsunami or nimo codecpack.

MP4 files are DivX video with AAC audio
if you want to play them in windows media player, you need 2 thing :

1 - 3ivx codec to play video ( best MPEG-4 video codec ) http://www.3ivx.com
2 - CoreAAC directshow filter to play audio (support Multichannel and HE AAC) http://rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org/aac.html

I have used 3ivx before but i dont why i ignored it this time, anyways your post was very halpful, thanks for your suggestions
i am def gonna try out the tools u mentioned, btw 3ivx let me play those files in WMP 6.0 and thats probably soemthing i care abt the most i just cant seem to live with any other media player...

.mp4 files can not only handle aac streams (as used in itunes) but also mp3/mp2/mp1
