AVI's play back choppy

I recently purchased a Radeon 7000 video card and installed directx 9.0. All of the sudden my avi files play back real choppy. And when I try and capture from my dv device they also capture choppy. However, my mpeg's play just fine. I've never had this problem until now. I was wondering if it was a directx problem or what?

Looks like a decoder problem. I doubt it is DirectX-related (have had no problems installing DirectX 9 on a number of different systems). Check that you have nothing interfering with the operation of these processes, and where possible, reinstall the codec(s) concerned.
