WMP decoding?

I hear the sound, nice and clear, but I don't see anything but a black screen. Winamp plays the same way too, as well as global divx. Now, when I have wmp running, I can go on ie6 and use the wmp (media tab) to play the videos in full there, but for only online videos. This is strange, because when it isn't running, in the background, it will do the same thing as if it were just wmp or winamp etc. Can someone please help? I've done searches on this matter and nothing seems to be what I am looking for. I have gotten encoding/decoding packs, ie wmp decoding pack 8, and 7.1 and 9 series and legacy series, etc. nothing has helped. thanks in advanced

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Ok, so running virtualdub, it played one of my mpgs fine, without any real problems, so, that is awkward. But when i first ran the program, i got this warning which is the illegalc pic i posted. I have a legit system, the only thing i can think of is the globaldivx player i got to see if it would work, which it didn't. ( i hate the app anyways, haven't needed a use for it yet). now, the second pic is the information you requested originally. I hope this helps pinpoint it, i'm a little lost, thanks.

i'm working on it, lol, sorry, that is why i edited my last post with the message, i was croping and saving for web size gifs and now uploaded to my isp so you can see without downloading

1) Feel free to ignore the warnings

2) Your tiny files should play properly, if they play under VirtualDub. I'd suggest you install good ol' reliable Windows Media Player v.6.4, as follows:

Desktop>>Start>>Run Then type MPLAYER2.EXE

Reboot

i found out my problem. i was thinking that it was a codec. I was messing around with it, clicked on audio devices, clicked on hardware, then click on the video codecs. there were two that didn't seem right, that had high and low speed, and like a smiley face with wink integrated into the name of the codec. I deleted the two codecs, and right away it worked. Thanks for you help in troubleshooting

You are describing the DivX v.3.11alpha codec (Fast-motion and Low-motion). Removing them should in no way affect your ability to playback videos.

About the only effect you should notice as a consequence of removing this codec, is that VirtualDub will no longer generate a warning message about them being detected on your system.

well, those high motion and low motions were the only things i messed with since we lasted talked and i haven't had a problem and am now able to play all the videos i want. in fact, i think that i put those codecs on after the problem originated to try and solve it thinking i was missing a codec., i don't know, at least it works now.
