    Software for Dazzle DVC 80?

    Hi,

What is good software for the Dazzle DVC 80, which will have a choice of picking what codec to use for both audio and video, record both audio and video well, wide screen or not, a timer that will record when set for the time and date and also for the length chosen, and if at all possible will also be able to record from more then one thing at once, for example if it is recording from a TV stations it will be able to record from another tv station at the same time without messing up? Please and thank you.

Please, give examples of software that will do some, if not all of
what is listed above? Please and thank you.

Sorry...there are no timers available to allow your DVC-80 to act like a VCR...there was a program (DTool) developed to do this for the DVC-150 by a user...and is available for download at http://beckerpm.dyndns.org/room.asp but it won't work for the DVC-80.

No worries ever, or even better recording software then what I have used. I use the newest pinnacle software, it playes great, however, when captured the sound does not work.

They have a forum on the Pinnacle site. Pinnacle used to not work with Dazzle captures because Dazzle captures audio in LPCM format...but when they acquired Dazzle, Pinnacle claimed their new stuff worked with it. Since my old stuff still works fine I haven't taken them up on their offer to upgrade to Studio8 (at substantial cost).

          Thanks for all the help.

I do not like pinnacle software. I have other problems with it other then the sound. It does not capture in the right codec I want either or I am unable to figure it out. I tried some pinnacle forms, however, was unable to figure them out.

Oh...since you are using Pinnacle....there's a driver update on the MS Windows Update site for a Pinnacle Driver. It might help you out. But for a non-Pinnacle user (like me) it's the kiss of death....if it's installed and you aren't using Pinnacle the DVXCEL Test Utility won't work.

Way back when I was trying to get the DVC-80 to work I ran across an alternate solution. I used MSMovieMaker2 which will recognize the DVC-80 (It would record video no problem.) But to get the audio to work I had to change the "Audio Source" from the DVC80 to the sound card and run the audio cable from the VCR to the LineIn (Mic) port. That worked pretty good.

Thank you for the information. That sounds like a great idea, however, I do not think I have the hardware to run it to the mic. I was sort of able to get the sound to work in movie maker, however, when the movie was tried to be played it would freeze the whole pc. Is there maybe different codec for it work or something like that? Please and thank you.

Even the old Win95 box I built back in '96 had a LineIn port for my sound card. I would run the RCA Composit cable for the video to the DVC-80 from the VCR (the DVC-80 is connect to the computer thru the USB port . Then I'd run the audio composit cable from the VCR directly to the LineIn (bypassing the DVC-80). To get it to work I had to change the Audio input setting in MM2 to the sound card. If your old box doesn't have a LineIn port you might want to seriously consider a computer upgrade. There are minimum hardware requirements for installing Pinnacle Studio8...this might be your problem.

Thank you for all the help. So there is no different software that works then for the DCV 80 other then pinnacle, moviemaker, and also moviestar? I used moviestar, which is the software it came with, however, I am unable to find anything about the sotware like updates and so on. It is like the moviestar software is dead.

MovieStar is a Dazzle product...and since Pinnacle bought Dazzle they are more interested in supporting Studio8. But you aren't missing anything...I don't know a soul who could get MS5 to work satisfactorily with the 80. That's why we adopted the MM2 solution...necessity is the mother of invention. But the DVC-80mjust sucked, in my opinion...so I upgraded to the DVC-150 which is worlds apart. The 150 capture looks identical to the original VHS tape...the 80 will only give you a blurry facsimily. The difference is the resolution (720X480 for the DVC-150 with a bitrate of up to 8000kbps vs. 356X240 for the 80)

Does the 150 have software where you are able to record with a timer?

Look back up to my first post. A user (TomK) wrote a number of specialty programs for the 150...and Paul Becker hosts them on his site. DTool is the program you'd need...if you had a 150. The 150 also captures in MPEG2...and with the smaller file sizes your machine is much less likely to get overtaxed and crash.

Nero supports a great deal of Capture cards and many more than they present on List.

Theire software is quite compreensive and will allow you to stipulate a start and finish time....

However I think if you want to record more than one channel I think it wont be possible with your card.. Or at all...

What you need to choose is Nerovision Express and the option Capture Video to Hard drive, set up the card and away you go... more or less...

                              Use the Force!!!
