Basic questions for making a DVD from a Digital camcorder.

    Hi...
I just started to make DVDs from my digital camcorder.
And i got several questions to ask...

    1. I used Nero 6 ultra demo version to capture my 60min film into .avi using DV-1 format, is this right thing to start?

    2. Also I burned a DVD using Nerovision Express from that .avi file, but it took me 4 hours...is that normal time for burning a 60min DVD?

    3. Anyhow the DVD works on my DVD player, however I can't FF or Rewind anything, why is that?

    4. I read some Q/As on this forum, and it makes me so confused.
Anyone recomends softwares for a)Capturing, b)Avi->MPEG2, c)Burning DVD...
Better with one package...and good quality with good interface under $200 will do it...of course.

    Thank you in advance.

u may get these programs that will do ur work...
    1: pinnacle studio 8 .........100 $
    2: Ulead Video Studio 7 .......100$
    3: Cyberlinks PowerDirector 2.55 .......100 $

i use the last one for just one reason its SVRT technology.......save lot of re-rendering time.. also last 2 are more user friendly.

all are available for trial.. so use and pick ur one.

Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

Thank you for the reply, Arifsh...

I tried Cyberlinks PowerDirector Pro 2.55 and it sure fits my needs with good speeds and interface, OK quality.
However I still can't rewind or fast forward the movie I created.
I can only skip to next chapter whenever I rewind or FF.

I guess I'm doing something wrong...
Any idea what I'm doing wrong or any other way to make a DVD movie?

      Thank you.

Perhaps a silly question but, are you sure you're pressing the correct buttons on your remote control (Look carefully before you scoff at me)?

              Yeh...
I'm sure I'm pressing right button...
I used to be an engineer who makes cd player...lol

Anyways...I tried to burn DVD from .avi file about 3 times using Nero, ULead, PowerDirector Pro...
I see some differences in quality and time needed but same thine...I can't rewind or fast forward...

I must be doing something wrong since all of you don't seem aware of that problem I have.

I'll try using Tmpgenc tonight and see.

              Thank you all of you.

                OK...back...

I made and burned another DVD.
                The first time RW/FF didn't work...frustrating.
But I kept pressing the button for more than a second and...it works.

I went back to the movies I made ealier and tried to hold RW/FF buttons, and all of them are working...GREAT.

Even though I'm so happy that now I know I can RW/FF my movie, they seem little bit different from comercial DVD movie since I can RW/FF those with a touch of a button on the same DVD player.
I wonder what the difference is.

Anyways I'm happy and will try to reseach to find right editing tool.

Thank you all of you for helping me.
                Take care.

You might want to experiment with different brands of media...
