    Split/join AVI?

I capture my movie from Digital camcorder to avi file first.
I'm not sure that's the best file format to do that.
Anyways since a few occasions are included in a video tape, I want to split the avi file according to the occasions, and later I could merge some files and burn into on DVD.

I tried some software to split a avi file, but hard to find a good one.
Some softwares do the job done good but make different types of files as a result, some don't even support the avi files I have.

I would appreciate any recommends on software which will split/join from and to .avi file.

    Thank you in advance.

Splitting with VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub
    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
    3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    4) Move slider to approximate halfway point
    5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
    7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
    8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
    10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
    11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").

I tried VirtualDUB with my .avi I made thru capturing from digital camcorder, but it doesn't even recognize the file format.
It says it can't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd', what does that mean?
I have no problem playing the file with Window Media Player.

      Shold I try NanDub now?

      Thank you.

You'll have to download and install a DVD codec, such as Canopus or MainConcept...

You should try EasyVideoSplitter (3). It's... as the name suggests... easy. To get it either do a google search for it or download it from KaZaA (get version 3, with a crack. But be wary of viruses) I don't remember where I found my copy... probably KaZaA. Oh actually afterdawn.com may have it, go there if you can't find it otherwise.
