Confusing VirtualDub Audio Error...

Hey guys...

I've got the Matrix Reloaded into AVI format because I want to edit out the sex scene (Keanu's bare butt... ewww), but when I load the AVI file into VirtualDub, it says

"Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 5001 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder"

I've checked the helpfile that comes with it, and it wasn't too helpful on this. What does this message mean, exactly? What should I do from here? I'm really new to video editing, so any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Use NanDub (rather than standard VirtualDub) to edit .AVIs that contain Variable Bitrate ("VBR") .MP3 audisotreams...

Okay, Nandub opened without a hitch....

but now, I can't save. There's no "Compression" under the "Video" menu in Nandub, and the final resulting size of the file without compression is 52 gigs! Yikes!

Also, just tried this option posted on this board:

The WAV file saved as like a 700K file, which was the first four seconds of the movie.

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into NanDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Move slider to the starting point of the scene you wish to delete
4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
6) Move slider to the ending point of the scene you wish to delete
7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Delete frames"
10) Save with a new filename

setarip-

I did just this, except I didn't use the 'edit' menu, I just used the handy little buttons. I was able to edit the file just fine...

However, when I try to save the changes (as a new file, of course) it warns me that I'm saving an uncompressed AVI and that it'll be huge - I let it save for about seven seconds, and the file it had produced was 600 megabytes! In Nandub, you don't have the "Compress" option under Video like you do in VirtualDub. Any ideas on how to edit this AND keep it below 50 Gigs?

Just read again searip's instructions:
video-direct stream copy. so you don't need to re-compress it.
Nandub can only use divX 3.11 (SBC options->SBC settings... but you woun't need that with direct stream copy)

Edit: if you use the little buttons, make sure you use the 'next/previous keyframe' buttons too, if not you will end up with audio/video desyncronisation.

Once again!:

2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

I apologize for my ignorance... it's a perfect copy, no real loss or degredation that I can see.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that this thread helped me to solve a problem of my own (cutting-and-saving a fragment from avi with VBR-audio). Nandub helped me out
