how to? VCD on DVDR, playable on DVD player

    Hi

    Situation

I currently have a large collection of anime in VCD disks. And will like to play them back one shot without changing disk all the time.

    Question

Can I copy all the DAT files from the VCD to my harddisk, then burn in on a DVDR and finally playing it back on my reglular DVD player as a very big VCD?

Can I do this without re-encoding all the mpeg1 to a very low bitrate mpeg 2?

    Thanks for any advice.

i just did a little experiment:
changed the extension of a vcd compliant video from .dat to .mpg and burned it as data cd (no folder structure, just the file in the root of the cd).
my set-top dvd player opens an exporer-like navigation screen, and recognizes the .mpg file as vcd, and plays it just fine. (this is a philips dvd724).
It should do the same thing with a data-dvd and multiple .mpg files.
Then again, it depends how smart your standalone dvd player is.

Well, this is not a "how-to", but a "what you could try"
