Tricks for joining WMV

Why not try Boilsoft's AVI_MPEG_RM_WMVJoiner (they give a short trial if you pick it up at C/Net) and see if it works. Of course you can always convert it to .mpg and perform your tricks. Then convert it back (if need be ) by running it through MM2. (oops...now I feel stupid...Movie Maker2 is a storyboard editor...all you need to do is load the segments into the storyboard in order and the finished product will be WMV.Last edited by rsquirell; 7 Nov 2003, 03:09 PM. -
Thanks rsquirrel for the joiner info.however, maybe i was not too clear. For an example:You go to a usenet newsgroup and find a vid which has been split, like with maybe MasterSplitter. The vid, lets call Beaches,is split into 3 parts.Beaches.wmv.001,Beaches.wmv.002,Beaches.wmv. 003.But because of Server inconsistanceys lets say the Beaches.wmv.002 is missing.you only have .001,and .003.Any idea how you can join these two and skip the 002?if it were a mpeg, you just rename the files.Would one of the joiners you mentioned be able to convert these to mpg's before they are joined?..LerchComment

on usenet not all parts make it through at once all the time...wait a few days and the missing file may show up. As an aside...if you rename the file by eliminating the .001 extension so it ends with .wmv it's a valid .wmv file...and individual segments will play as such. If you rename the files to eliminate the .00x you can load the segments into MM2's storyboard and make your WMV....but wait a week and make sure you have all the parts...maybe you can make it complete.Last edited by rsquirell; 8 Nov 2003, 12:26 AM.Comment

Ping rsquirell
Hi rsquirell, just to let you know i did try the dropping of the numbers and that does Not work.just get error saying corrupt file. Also tried MM2 which since the files are said corrupt,MM2 will not allow them to be loaded in the storyboard. So i still have yet to find a way around missing WMV vids with missing parts.there is no way to play nor join them...Ho Humm,Thanks for trying though!....LerchComment

Why are you going to all that trouble??
For files with extensions like .001, .002, etc. These are files split with a program called HJSplit. It's free for the download.
To join them back together, just start HJSplit, browse to the filename of the one with the .001 extension, click "join", and in a few seconds the joined file is created. Simple.Comment

>> HJSplit only works with MPEGS. <<
WRONG! HJSplit is not file-type dependent. To quote what it says in the readme file:
"HJSplit 2.2
Description
File splitting program for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME
Is able to split files of any type and any size."
Just the fact that *.wmv.001, etc. files even _exist_ is clear evidence that it DOES work on wmv files.Comment
