Have you successfully played the ORIGINAL file from start to finish?

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I take it this is an AVI?
If the original is OK then this is likely a decoding problem.
Open TMPG and go to Options>Enviromental setting>VFAPI plugins

Right click on the 'Directshow multimedia file reader' and raise the priority to 2 then restart TMPG.

If you still encounter probs the try installing FFDSHOW which is better at decoding DIVX and XVID with TMPG than the original codec themselves.

If you need more help on TMPG pop over to the TMPG BBS, no need to register and you will find me there most times.

I had the same thing happen with a short clip (AVI) in TMPGenc today. I tried to get VirtualDub, and then VirtualDubMod to process it with no joy. Luckily, ULead VS7 made it an MPEG2 (took an hour to do a 7 minute clip) which I could take back into TMPGenc to clip a logo off. People are making some strange stuff out there.

                      1) Load the original XviD-compressed .AVI file into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

                      2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

                      3) Select "Check for errors"

                      4) Select "Mask bad frames"

                      5) Save with a new filename

Make sure when you install FFDSHOW that you configure it to decode XVID AVI's.

Also try unchecking the SSE2 optimizations in TMPG and use the preview option in TMPG to see if you can read through the whole file prior to encoding, click File>preview.
