Converting those darn AVI files again

After some brilliant help here on this problem before, I find myself faced with another strane conundrum

I have an avi file while when using TMPGE to convert to Mpeg is coming out twice the length and memory size than it should be, now the advice I got before was to modify it with Virtual dub mod which was working fine until I have come across similar files that when doing that loose the audio after going through the Virtual dub process????

Confused again!

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Strange cos when I open this in normal virtual dub, I get the error message that would get with my other files before I direct stream them.

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 4535 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptabable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress witha constant bitrate encoder (bitrate 115.6+/-11.2kbps)

Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio for use with TMPGEnc

Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK"

4) Save with a new filename

When I try and do that I loose the audio?

Please post the "File Information" from the NEW .AVI that you created by following my instructions (Using VirtualDubMOD to convert the audiostream to .WAV)...

When it goes through the processing section, the audio sectionof the box always remains 0

screen capture I can help with - Hit "Print Screen" and go to a graphic app, even MS Paint I gather! Select "paste" from the edit menu and save the file

Does the entry saying Fraunhofer mean you actually have the codec?

Did you save the .WAV audio as a SEPARATE file, rather than saving it as part of the NEW .AVI? (Use "Find" to search for "*.WAV" files on your system)

and then it processes it into one saved file, so I am not sure how to separate the saving of the audio and the video?

I'm not SUGGESTING that you save the audio file separately, I'm ASKING if you might have INADVERTENTLY done this.

When you "saved with a new filename", did you go to the "File" dropdown menu and select "Save as" - or did you, from the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Save .WAV"?

Your original still actually has a sound stream?
Have you tried any other apps, G-Spot or DVDlab?
