How do I make this AVI filesize smaller? (1.77GB/8Mins)

What sort of program can I use to get that filesize on down? This is freaking insane. Please keep in mind that I have no idea where to even start. I'm sure that the filesize could go down a HUGE amount, that's all I want to do so that I can then upload it or send it to people.

I want it to still have decent video/audio quality, thanks a lot!

Download and install a DivX video codec and an .MP3 audio codec and VirtualDub (or VirtualDubMOD). Then use VirtualDub to compress both video and audio...

I've been told that, but what options and the such should I pick and everything. As I said, I know nothing at all about this sort of thing.

I'm lucky that I was able to take the video from my cam to my computer, lol.
