what is AC3-Digital ?

and where can I get this? I d/l an AVI that uses this for the sound, and I am getting now sound!

u need ac3 codec, usually installing software dvd player installes such filters, like powerdvd or windvd.

for some reason netiher ms media player, nor power dvd installed it. i found this codec now and I insalled it (click on the install file it came with..) and it worked, but next time i tried running movie i had same problem, and I had to re-run this codec. how can I get this codec to remain installed? does ms media playwer and powerdvd have a code installation feature?
