    TMPGEnc - Invalid pointer operation?

I was reading the articles on the site about converting .avi files to .mpg, firstly i split the movie in two using nandub. Then i went through the tutorial, whilst doing it i was loading up the movie and you load up the audio file aswell, but it was'nt working so i went into nandub and saved the audio file as .wav and i started TMPGEnc and it was going fine. Then it got to 100 and came up with an error "Invalid pointer operation". So i checked the file and the sound wasnt working, i was wondering what the problem is and if there is sucefully way to do this with sound working? Is it maybe i need codecs, if so could you specify or give me a link to them, thanks

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The audiostream is probably in either .AC3 format or Variable Bitrate MPEG Layer 3 (VBR .MP3).

If it proves to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

If it proves to be VBR:

Simply use VirtualDubMOD (Different than standard VirtualDub), to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

    2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

    3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK"

    4) From the "File" dropdown menu, save the .AVI with a new filename

Your video contains an .AC3 audiostream. There is no need to extract the audio separately. As I indicated in my initial post to this thread: Since it is now proven to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

ok, i tried again, done what you told me still came up with "invalid pointer operation" still the sound isnt working. Why is it still not working?

oh. Btw if it means anything when i stopped the mpg whilst seeing if it had worked it said "Warning: nothing to output bframe decoder lag" it never appeared as a alert or anything, its as if its part of the movie.

Can you successfully PLAY (with sound) the original Xvid-compressed .AVI file?

If you haven't already done so, download and install the FFDShow filter (I assume you already have an XviD codec installed)...

Attempt to again use TMPGEnc to convert your Xvid-compressed .AVI...

                              1) Load the .AVI file (XviD-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

                              2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

                              3) Select "Check for errors"

                              4) Select "Mask bad frames"

                              5) Save with a new filename
