      you are probably only moving the "mark out" (set selection end) slider

      If that is the case, then:
      open avi, click "mark in", move to middle of file (on keyframe), click "mark out", save as, click "mark in", move to end of file, click "mark out", save as.

          First:

          1.Set mark at the beginning
          2. use STRG + -> to scroll to your cutting mark ( the direction key)
          3. set end mark to desired cutting point
          4.set video and audio to "direct stream copy"
          5. save as avi with new filname.
          6. after process has finished... set beginning mark
          with the above mentioned method to the end mark of the previously selected "end mark" ( previous stopping point) and set the NEW end mark at the end of the movie (or any point desired)

          7.save this as avi with a reasonable OTHER name
          like --> HEAT01. avi -->HEAT02. avi .....
          proceed as described to the end...if you want to cut into more than two pieces...
          this ensures that you are cutting at I- frames which is quite important....

          good luck
