    subtitles below tv screen

    Dvd Writer: TDK Indi
    Software: Nero 6

I recently burn avi movies(divx codec) to dvd using NeroVision Express 2. When i played the disc on a dvd player, the movie can be played clearly but the subtitles can only be half-seen. It seems like the movie is bigger than the tv screen. I hope somebody can give me solutions to this problems. Thanx!

If you fiddle with the menu and buttons on your remote I'll bet you find a setting that will adjust from 16-9 to something that will allow you to see them. It's a correction on your TV Set (especially those wide-screen plasma's.

If I understood right you took a DivX movie and re encoded it to DVD correct?

Did the DivX move have hard coded subs (always on and embeded into the movie itself) that someone may have added (anime translators used to do that alot in the AVI format before the much better OGM and MKV formats rolled around (you can soft code subs in those formats so they can be turned on and off like a DVD).

Anyway if the subs are hard coded into the movie then whats going on is PC's dont have overscaning and show 100% of the image but TVs overscan and a small portan of the image is not seen. Kinda like you said "It seems like the movie is bigger than the tv screen" becose it acctualy is.

Whoever subed the DivX may have put the subtitles so low on the image that overscaning now hides it and theres probly nothing you can do about it.

I've done something to the tv too. i made the screen smaller. After that, the subtitles were shifted up only a little bit but it is still half-seen. Is there any way to shift the subtitles up? Thanx!

One odd solution that MAY work is to deliboratly add black borders to the edges of the DivX movie and then re convert it back to DVD. (around 24 pixles of black on all 4 sides should be good).
