I really like mpeg2cut, however, when I try to open the files in Ulead DVD Movie Factory, it says the file contains no video. I can open the cut mpeg file in Media Player and it plays fine with audio and video. Any idea what is happening?
mpeg2cut works but....

When you cut off the first part of the film you cut off the Video Headers (which are contained only in the first few kilobytes), and the saved MPEG2CUT file doesn't automatically generate new ones...and some software may not accept your trimmed video. Don't know much about MovieFactory...but Video Studio 7 has a large window and sliding curser to easily find and mark start/end points and "trim" (cut) video. Why not do your cutting in MovieFactory and work with ULead compatible files? -
Thanks, that makes sense. I don't really like Movie Factory's video editor. It takes a while to get to the right frame with a slider and the window is small in the version I have. I like that I can jump to the right frame with the arrow keys in mpeg2cut. It is also very fast. I guess I should include a cut that is just of the first couple of frames. Then I could join all of the cuts together back in to one file. That should work, right?Comment

To jonhargett
Are you editing DVD .VOB files or some other type of MPEG files?
If they are DVD .VOB files, you can use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc") to EASILY edit them and retain DVD .VOB format.
If they are other than DVD .VOB files, please state what they are...Comment

I am editing MPEG-2 files that have been captured by video capture card.
rsquirell, MovieFactor does not allow me to select avi files.
I found a combination that works. I used mpeg2cut to cut the scenes I want to keep making sure to include the first frame as one of the cuts so I get the headers. Then I used CombiMovie to combine the clips back together as one file. Then I can select the joined mpeg in MovieFactory.
Is this the best method or is there a faster (using less applications) way of doing it?Comment

I didn't even know you could add the video headers that way...well done. There are lots of things you could do...but they all cost money...and I dont know that they'll save you any time. You could upgrade to ULead VS7 (which will accept AVI (VDMod is fast)) ...or split them with TMPGenc DVD Author, TMPGenc Plus, or half a dozen other editors...But if your way works...(personally, I'd get VS7...you can capture, split, save file and recombine by feeding the saved segments into the storyboard...and keep the whole operation all the way through burn under one roof.)Last edited by rsquirell; 22 Jan 2004, 08:54 AM.Comment
