    AIW8500Dv MPEG2 problem

Hi there, I am new to this forum so hi to you all

My problem is that I have tried to record TV programs using MMC7.7 and the digital VCR.

What is happening is that it records ok on every other format apart from MPEG2 where I get a small moving block with little squares inside it that dances around the recording.

The recording itself is fine and clear but moving block is very annyoing.

Has anyone got any idea if this is some sort of protection?

I have applied the ATI Macrovision Patch and that has not worked although I am not sure if that was the cause or still the cause of this problem.

The settings I am trying to use are

    Type Mpeg2
    Video 720x756 PAL (625)
    8.00 M Bit/Second
    Audion 48.000khz, 16bit Stereo

I have plenty of hard disk space and am using a P4 2.0ghz CPU

I would be very grateful for any help to resolve this problem.

    Thanks in advance

I would upgrade to one of the MMC 8.x versions. These seem to work better. Check here for alot of info on ATI capturing www.lordsmurf.com
ps upgrade to the newest drivers, this helped me.

      Hi there
I have updated the drivers to the latest Catalyst drivers and the MMC to 8.8 but I am still getting this little block moving around the screen.

The moving block is three blocks by three and in the top right hand block white square, the rest are transparent and just change colour as they go over the screen colour matching the background.

      Any ideas or suggestions?

I am trying to get a picture of it onto here.

Is this protection so I cant record MPEG2 off the TV?
      Thanks

I use the same, MMC 8.8 with latest drivers with the AIW 9000pro. I record from digital cable and vcr. I never saw this one. All my captures are 720x480 or 352x480(1/2 D1)

The settings I am trying to use are

          Type Mpeg2
          Video 720x756 PAL (625)
          8.00 M Bit/Second
          Audion 48.000khz, 16bit Stereo
This would be correct except PAL is 720x576
Tried to duplicate your settings but just found out my MMC 8.8 won't let me go above 720x480 in mpeg2. Will try a couple of things and post back.
ps are you using the capture templates that come with MMC or making a custom one.

Thanks for replying, I am using the templates ones.

Interestingly I have just tried to record on win98se, same machine just different partition, and I had no artifact moving on the screen, sadly also had no sound but thats another problem.

This was with MMC TV ver 7.5 but not using the catatlyst drivers, it was a bit jerky though.

So its something to do with XP and the drivers?

                Hi all

Well after having no reply I have decided that you dont know how to help me, thanks anyway for looking or helping.

I have however finally worked out what was causing the problem in the end.

It was a program called Elecard MPEG2 Decoder Package, I have no idea where this came from and never noticed it on the system until ATI wanted a report submitted to them of what is on my system. Has anyone heard of this program by the way?

This report after reading it, drew my attention to the program, a quick uninstall and it was all back to normal although the quality on DVD MPEG2 is none too good which suprises me, but I will keep going at it.

Thanks to those that answered my plea for help.

Hope this helps someone in the future having the same problem

                Regards
