can't play .AVI file plz help

I have just downloaded movie from Kazza and it is in .AVI format.

I use Divx player to play this movie, it gives me no error but there is no picture and sound.

Please help.

I use Windows XP.

Download GSpot...find out what "Codec" you need for video and audio...find them on the web, and install them.

If the "movie" you downloaded is a commercial movie, then your post is against the forum rules (rule 6). Just a warning ...

If you have the right codecs, and the file still doesn't work, then it could be a fake :

I downloaded VirtualDubMod software and the .avi file is not a fake one.

I have also downloaded Xvid Codec and I can play .Xvid files no problem.

THe problem that I have is no pic, no sound while playing the .avi file.

any clue?

If the movie is NOT a COMMERCIAL movie:

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

could be renamed from mpeg/mpg to avi? render it as the lad said above (use g-spot)
