mpg problems

Hi there
I have a problem with playing some mpg files , the players I use do not figure out the length of the mpg file as it should , for example a 1 hour file will be figured out as an 11 minutes file.
I'd appreciate some help , thanks.

Does it PLAY for 1 hour, or only 11 minutes?

If it plays for only 11 minutes and if you've obtained the file via download (rather than creating it yourself), it probably was created by improperly merging two or more smaller MPEG files...

If it plays for 1 hour, simply ignore the timebar...

the mpg files are downloaded from the net but they are an hour long (and so on) but play for 11 minutes
the problem occurs ither because of missing codecs or too many codecs that are installed om my computer it could also be because of the sound track
anyhow, if someone has expirienced the same problem please help

The best way to check the actual length is via VirtualBub(Mod).

File->File Information (look in length).

Certain players usually display the wrong time if you skip to a certain part of the file while playing it. This is known with PowerDVD.

If the file has been split...and this is the first part of the original file...the video header information will still give the time of the unsplit original. If having the time correct is important to you you can correct it by reprocessing the file...and then the video header info will be rewritten.

how do i reprocess the file , i know some programs for avi/divx problems but i can't find such programs for mpg format

TMPGenc Plus...you can download from this site...try a trial version

TMPGEnc>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut - Load the MPEG file and then save with a new name...

I've tryed it but it wont do i think there is an audio problem but i'm not sure

Load your file into either G Spot or VirtualDubMod and post here what file information reveals.
