    PowerDVD playback from harddrive

Hi this is probably a real lamer question – but I want to be able to play a couple of DVD titles from my harddrive rather than from disc, using PowerDVD.

However, when I transfer the VOB files to my harddrive, PowerDVD will only play them back as indidvidual VOB files, even when ‘playlisted’ usiing the PowerDVD playlist creator. This results in a slight and very annoying pause as the player moves onto the next VOB files.

Is there a file that the player reads when the title is on the DVD disc that is not supported when it reads VOB files from the harddrive – is there some way of getting ‘gapless’ playback from my hard drive DVd playback?

Do I need to transfer an additional file from the disc to get PowerDVD to give me seamless playback or hack something to create a file association for seamless playback on the harddrive.

I know it sounds really weird wanting to take up good harddrive space with a DVD - but it is only temporary measure - but this pause right in the middle of crucial scenes as the player moves onto the next VOB file is really frustrating

Any help or abuse would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

I had the same problem and couldn't solve it. I switched to WinDVD2000 and now it really works perfect. If you still want to use PowerDVD you may use a DVD/CD-drive-emulator.

I tried using WinDVD2000, placed all 6 vob files into the playlist yet I still get a pause between tracks too. And also in WinDVD2000 the aspect ratio is all messed up whereas PowerDVD plays it fine but I still get pauses between vob files.

      Any more ideas?

Its a real bugger - hard drive playback

My question to the techies on this board

is how does PowerDVD know to play the VOB file back seamlessly from DVD disc - does it use some form of file as a reference - is there not some way to get it to make the same descions when it is playing from harddrive?

I think the Information about the audio- and video-streams is stored in the ifo-files. The problem is that WinDVD or PowerDVD can't simply use that ifo-file. If you want to play the movie from HDD you have to copy the whole DVD to a directory named "video_ts" in the root of your hdd. Then WinDVD accepts your hdd as a dvd-drive and plays the movie exactly like it does from dvd.
