    dvd recorder

I can get an "open box" Panasonic DMR-E80H for $390 or a Phillips DVDR 75 for $240. I'm looking for any pro & con on these. Will I be able to make back-up DVDs,
or is the PC route a better way?
The Panasonic records DVD-R or DVD-RAM.
    The Phillips does DVD+R/RW.
My main TV is a Sony 34XBR910. Nice picure.

I'd go for the panasonic. I was asking a similar question earlier. If you use DVD-RAM (rewritable) on the Panny, then Ulead Video STudio7 can import it so you can edit or then make DVD-Rs
