Renting and then Copying ? !

howdi all, just wanted to ask, lets say if one rents out a dvd from a videp store and makes a copy of it, is there a way the video store would know that it has been ripped, what preventas them from stopping anyone, coz if ripped then everyone would do it and not rent again?

I think the most of us are old enough not to fall for that.

No, but they'll probably try to find a way to pull it off. A funny thing is that in the old VHS days, my parents were so afraid copying a tape would send them to hell. But now that DivX has come along, my dad has me rip his rented DVDs all the time.

Lol. I don't sell them or anything; I just use them for practice rips to get better at it.

Same here. But I tend to rent NTSC DVDs because of the better challenge at getting the best quality out of them (Read: PAL is better). ^_^

I don't understand why we keep making NTSC DVDs anymore. I heard that the new HDTV standard isn't even NTSC since interlacing will be eliminated. But I have a quastion about transfers from film to NTSC. The detected framerate on a DVD movie is FILM 23.976, but film is usaully refered to as having 24 fps. Is the framerate first changed to from 24 to 23.976 to fit right in the NTSC 29.97? Is that why you get that annoying jerk onlong pans every few seconds?
