I entered the player model, I entered DVD+R and DVD-R, I entered Canada, and all I got back was comments on 3 other models than mine??????

If the box and the manual confirm the unit will play bruned DVD's then why wont it play DVD burns that other brands can and do play.

Finding the ideal media for burner and player is a good 50% of the struggle. In an ideal world they should all work and there should only be one standard but heck! wouldn't life be boring?

Maybe when you made the DVD you made a "Data" or "Image" DVD...you need to make a Video DVD. Did you use a DVD Authoring program to create the VIDEO_TS folder containing the IFO, BUP and VOB files?

Ah so...this thread makes more sense after reading the other thread...if you used DVDShrink your DVD is authored...so, therefore, the problem must be with the type discs burned (if the player plays commercial DVDs and isn't hooked up wrong.)
