    .mpg audio problems

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to help me, i'm not very good at this stuff so I need some help.

I have a .mpg file that i'd like to play. The problem is that when I play it using win media player it gives a green line at the top and the audio dosen't work. The vid plays, but it givs a codec error and says I'm missing a codec but it dosen't know what.

I already downloded the Gordian.Knot.Codec.Pack.1.6 package, and got all the latest codecs I could think of but the audio just dosen't play. In winamp, it plays with no audio and the green band. and in quicktime it osen't even play.

I could probably get the right codec, but I don't know which one I need.

Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

there arealot of codecs out on the internet. the codec packages are for the film itself not the audio, you will need to look for audio codecs, you might have to dfownload every audio codec there is to find out what codec is needed theninstall them alland try the movie evertime you have installed a new codec.

I hope this has helped you abit on your quest for the movie actually playing.

You can check codecs using GSpot or VirtualDub

        1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

ok, I downloaded VirtualDub 1.5.10 but then when I try to open the .mpg file it says:

No video frames found in MPEG video

I know the vid is there cause It plays in mediaplayer, but it won't open in virtulDub. I don't know what wrong, cause I can open opther .mpg files in virtualDub.

          Thanks again guys.

Is it an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video?

If it's MPEG-2, try loading it into VirtualDubMOD (DIifferent than standard VirtualDub) and post a screen capture of the "File Information" box...
