If you're wanting to go from svcd (480x480) to full dvd (720x480/576) I use Mainconcept or Tmpgenc Plus. I then use Tmpgenc DVD Author to create menu etc, and Nero to burn.Comment

If you have created SVCD (mpeg2) file and you are trying to make a DVD from the SVCD (mpeg2) file than this is the route I would use.
TMPGEnc Plus (AVI format to Mpeg2 format) create two files M2V video file and MP2 audio file and custom build video and audio as you like.
Ifo Edit (mpeg2 format to DVD format)
burn to DVD
If you have one Mpeg2 file like you normally would for SVCD you will have to split the Mpeg2 file into two files M2V video and MP2 audio files, TMPGEnc Plus can do this for you. The two files are needed for input into Ifo Edit.Comment

Cant remember where I cribbed this from but it works great.
How to Convert SVCD/VCD/AVI to DvDr fast!
SVCD
Lots of people seem to want to convert SVCDs to DvDs and waste a lot of time recoding their SVCD data, Joining files, etc.
There is a much easier way without any picture degradation You need a programme called DVDPATCHER_v105b available at www.doom9.org downloads section and TMPG DVD Author from www.pegasus-inc.com (free for 30 days)
The problem is SVCD has a horizontal resolution of 480 and DvD has a horizontal resolution of either 352 or 704
Copy your SVCD files to your Hard Drive, I will call mine AVSEQ01a.MPG and AVSEQ01b.MPG. Right click on each file select properties and untick read-only.
Load up dvdpatcher and load AVESEQ01a, the info window will tell you that this is a 480x480 resolution, select 352 in the horizontal size box, select entire file in the patch box, press PATCH NOW and START. After a minute the file will now show its resolution as 352x480 (although nothing has really changed) Do the same to file AVESEQ01b.
Load up TMPG DVD Author, create new project, add file, AVSEQ01a, ignore GOP errors, yes, ok. You now have CD1 loaded. Now, add file AVSEQ01b same again. You have CD1 and CD2 loaded, if you want to add chapters to either CD then click edit, chapter cut edit, right click in chapter window, add chapters in specified intervals (I use 10 mins)
You are now ready to move to the Create Menu window, insert title, play with layout, etc.
Output, hit the BEGIN button.....your VOB files are now being prepared and
your audio tracks will be recoded from 44kbs to 48kbs, this will take approx 10mins per cd.
Final step, load dvdpatcher, load up EACH MOVIE VOB FILE and select 480 as the horizontal size, patch entire file VTS01_1.VOB, VTS01_2.vob, etc. DO NOT PATCH THE VTS01_0.VOB!
Once this is done, burn to dvd as normal (use TMPG DVD Author).
The file sizes will not have changed........you can fit 5 cds onto 1 dvdr
(2 movies, for movie2 select ADD NEW TRACK put movie2 on track 2)
The sound will still be in sync, with no need to join movie files.
The audio sample rate has changed from 44kbs (SVCD) to 48kbs (DVD)
The Video resolution is unchanged at 480x480......this is not standard DVD video resolution, but if your DVD player can play DVDr, its likely to be able to play this .
VCD
Just load the AVESEQ.DAT file straight into dvd author (you will need to
use the "all file types" commant to see it. The only recoding done is the audio track.....and dvd author will do that on its own.
AVI
You will need TMPGenc from www.pegasys-inc.com for this
open the programme and the wizard will start, select Low Res NTSC or
Low Res PAL (choose the format your avi/dat file is in if you want it fast)
navigate to the file you want to convert (select all file types for a .DAT vcd)
input a bitrate of 1800......and encode as seperate vid and audio files. It takes about 10 mins. feed result into DVD Author.Comment

Hi. Just wondered if you had any thoughts on this - followed the guide by _Phat_ - tho I think this is for NTSC and mine are Pal judging by the vertical res. Backed up 3 SVCD discs using DVD Patcher and TPMG DVD Author as above. All went fine but on my stand alone Tosh it plays the disc very oddly: basically the film image is duplicated, side by side to form a long letterbox type strip across the top quarter roughly of the screen. The lower part is displayed as a green "box".
Now on my PC and my cheapie Alba player it plays perfectly, as do most things.. Once again the Tosh keeps throwing curve balls at me. So I've solved the SVCD sync problems that I discovered with the Tosh ( I can just tell the sound is in sync which is wasn't with any of my exisiting SVCDS) but havn't a clue what this is... tried everything in case it was just some setting but nothing works.
Only thing is that I didn't burn using TMPG DVD Author or Nero - as there is a possibility that it was Nero that caused the original sync probs - I used CloneDVD2 which has always been fine for me..
Or could this just be player incompatibility? As the Tosh did actaully play the SVCDs ok, other than the sound sync, do I need to use DVD Patcher I wonder...Comment

Just reauthor in DVDLab. No patching/encoding needed.
Edit: Just noticed that setarip beat me to itComment

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Most of my SVCDs are pretty DVD compliant - I didn't downsample the audio etc when I made them, but my new player which is awesome in most other ways compared to the Alba, insists on playing then out of sync. Common prob I believe.
There are just so many good tools out there it's difficult as a relative newbie to get to grips with what does what, or what does what bit of a process (and best) and then which prog takes over etc. (Thank Gawd for Forums!) A matrix or something with the main prods and their best features - what they do & don't do & what you need for the next stage etc against a desired process etc would be helpful! It's even worse when it's just a small bit of the process you need that's buried in some much fine functionality.
For instance at first glance (& I haven't used them much so bear with me) TMPG DVD Author & DVDLab look very similar to a newbie (i.e MPEG2 etc in - VOB out). But they obviously ain't. Guess the best way is to get to grips with my subject matter then I'd understand exactly what I needed to do & so better what each prog was capable of doing!
DVDlab looks good - got a bit lost off with what I was patchin & why towards the end of the other process so I'm gonna set this off direcly from the source SVCDs & see how I get on.
This probably needs a new thread for this but will any of these progs easily convert NTSC DVD content to PAL or PAL60? I'm guessin a patch on a vob wouldn't work?
sorry, that went on a bit..Comment

HELP with the demux and joining, video problems after.
Hello my friends,
Right now i'm ripping many DVDs, french specially, and adding them my subtitles, french if they don't have, spanish and english.
Ok, so i do what i have learned from cool guides,
Rippind with DVDdecripter
Extract just movie with DVDShrink
Demux y REmux with IfoEdit and Vob edit
But
After some burned DVDs i got this problem,
I have an error with the video, ther's some kind of jump point, i mean amoment where the video stops and continues.
I proved the original Shrink video and is OK
I proved the demuxed M2v and is OK
But the problem is when i Remux or join again the m2v, ac3,subtitles and celltimes (Getting the DVD joined again)
anyone could help me???
I don't know if this could be a celltime problem or hard disk cause i mux from a FAT32 to a NTFS (cause demux m2v is bigger than 4.1 GBs), but i don't think so, cause the demux is ok the problem is whth the joined and transfored DVD .
Thank you very much, and greetings from PERU.
PD: I'm sending the tutotial I USE
which i found very very usefull, maybe the problem is there
any CAPO could review it, is really a good subtitle DVD tutorial .Attached FilesComment
