Sound and subtitle missing !!?

I tried DVDShrink to see how it works before I buy my own DVD burner. I selected a part of a movie. Following the excellent guides on the site I chosed audio and subtitle settings.
It worked excellent and I ended up with the expected VOB file on my harddrive.
But when i tried to run the file in PowerDVD the movie was all right but there was no sound and no subtitle!!!
What could possible be wrong? I looked through all settings but found nothing. I tried different sound alternatives and subtitles but with the same result.
Is it not possible to hear/read VOB files if they are run from harddrive??? Seems strange to me ....

DVDShrink 3.1.7.6 English
PowerDVD 4.0 Swedish
Windows XP

I did read the article on ffdshow!
I installed it and tried my VOB file in PowerDVD again without any difference.

I also tried gspot but was quite confused.
After a rendering it did report the following:
MPEG2_VIDEO / DOLBY_AC3
Video: S --> MPEG2 Splitter --> InterVideo Video Decoder --> R
Audio: S --> MPEG2 Splitter --> ffdshow Audio Decoder --> R

After all this I installed WinDVD.
There I could hear the sound !!! Strange.....
But the subtitle was still missing.

You have to play it "as a DVD", NOT simply play the .VOB file...

Read the dropdown "Help" files for both PowerDVD and WinDVD to find out how to do this...
