    Combining AC3 with AVI

I've followed the dvd to xvid avi guide at http://www.nanomessiah.com/dvd-backup/dvd-to-xvid.html and everything went fine. I have seperate avi and ac3 files which both play. When it comes time to use nandub to do a direct stream copy of both files to a new combined avi the file size shows the 2 together but playback has no sound. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info. My 200Gb hard drive is almost full with vobs so I need to start converting them to xvid now.

Load the AVI/Xvid into NanDub. Go to "File" > "File Information" and post the information listed in both the "Audio Track" and "Video Track" sections of the dialog box, or post a screen capture.

the file that i have combined but cannot hear shows audio as

          48000Hz
          2 (Stereo)
          0-bit
          Unknown (tag 2000)
          28000 samples (0.58s)
          28905
          1120/2240/28000 (63254K)

It is a DD standup comedy flick but only 2 channel not surround.
Why did I not convert the sound to wav/mp3 because I was using it as a test before doing all the movies

As an experiment, output the audio track to a WAV file, and then mux the WAV file with your AVI file (uncompressed) and see if you have sound.

What do you use to output as a wave file?

Use a free program called HeadAc3he if you have the saparate Ac3 audio track.

Actually, now that I think of it, an easier approach might be to load the Xvid into NanDub, and make sure both "Video" and "Audio" are set to "Full Processing Mode" and go to "File" and select "Save WAV". Then test the WAV file to make sure you have sound. Then go back and do what I suggested in my 2nd post.

I'm decoding from a vob file not an xvid. its split into audio and video files which both play on their own. I have the wave file using HeadAc3he form the ac3 and it plays on its own. it seems to me that the video and audio files themselves are right I just can't seem to join them again

in the nandub status window under perf when its supposed to be combining and making a new avi file it says video streaming but no audio. that said i just combines the wav with the video and it work so why won't the ac3 and the video combine

"so why won't the ac3 and the video combine"

You have to select under "Audio" in NanDub "Ac3 Audio" and a dialog box will come up asking you to select your Ac3 audio track. Navigate to where you saved the audio track. Set video and audio to "Direct Stream Copy", then go back to "File" and "Save As AVI" (F7).

I know its as simple as that but the sound just won't play. The avi file has increased about the same size as the avi plus ac3 would be but no sound plays.
