    windows 2000 vs XP

Hey everyone.. I've got a question. I used to burn my DVDs on XP with no problem, and was happy with the time it took to rip and burn (including analyis it took about 3 1/2 hours total). It used to take me 15 min to burn a DVD through NERO on my NEC 1400A 4X. but now, i formatted my hard drive, and installed windows 2000 instead. The process has nearly doubled for ripping and burning. Does anybody know any sugesstions to speed up the process in 200? Here are my specs.. 1.1ghz amd athlon, 384MB of ram, 40GB HD, 64MB nvidia.. any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks..

Most likely the problem is that your IDE controller is set to use PIO mode rather than DMA (For some reason this is the default in Windows 2000). Go to the device manager, pick the disk controller (most likely secondary) go to the advanced settings tab, and if it says PIO only in the dropdown box, select DMA if available. Restart your computer and this should vastly improve performance.

        No problem.

Also, and WTG switching to Win2k, because XP pure crap IMHO.

        Good luck!
