"and there is no need to mess with the advance tools"

Don't know if you'd consider this to be using "advanced tools", but this is how I create my VCDs using TMPGEnc:

    1) Load .AVI file into TMPGEnc
    2) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
    3) Click on "Setting" radio button
    4) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD" (from default of "MPEG1")
    5) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240
    6) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
    7) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240 (Note: "Video" tab mode of "MPEG1" is okay) - for highest quality set "Motion Search Precision" to "Highest Quality".
    8) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)
    9) Press "Start"

Note that if your video runs longer than 60 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your VCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Once again, make sure to change the mode to "MPEG1-Video CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file)

"when i convert divx in to vcd that dosent happen to me only when i convert avi to vcd"

"DivX" videos are merely DivX-compressed .AVIs (although not all .AVIs are DivX-compressed virtuall ALL of those downloaded from the Net are DivX-compressed .AVIs). What is the distinction you are trying to make?

Under Explorer, rightclick on the filename. Select "Properties". Click on the "Details" tab. Post all of the information here, for the possibility of providing more insight...

After you've loaded the file into TMPGEnc and have made all of the settings I previously described for creating a VCD, click on the "Video" tab and set the framerate to 25FPS. Then click on the "Audio" tab and set to 44,100Hz and 224Kbps.

            I look forward to hearing of your success ;>}

What version of TMPGEnc are you using?

Have you previously created GOOD VCD conversions from any .AVIs?

                    to setarip:

                    1) I guess it's a typo but the bitrate in (8) is of course constant bitrate when encoding to vcd.

                    2) I always use "high quality" instead of "highest quality" in (7), because the latter takes twice as long which the quality isn't much higher.

                    3) In setting (5) I set the "Video arrange method" to "full screen (keep ar)". Although I still don't understand these setting, but I thought that the vcd can be played full screen on your computer. Or does it mean something different ?

                    to profecia2000:

Sorry I can't help you with your problem. But you seem a bit confused about pal/ntsc. If you are watching tv in America (in England also I think, but I'm not sure) -> ntsc (352x240 for your vcd).
In the rest of Europe -> pal (352x288 for your vcd).

Sure. Some standalones have narrower tolerances than others...

                            These are the DivX Properties.

                            Audio:
