New user trying to get file to work

Hi. I'm new to this forum and to my computer in general. I have a video file that plays, but I don't get video or sound. It's labeled as a 'teg divx' file. I downloaded the current divx player, but no luck. Can anyone help me out?

If you've downloaded this file from a P2P setup, it's most likely a fake file.

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, but I'm not sure what 'virtaldub' is. Is it a program I download like 'divx'? I'm kinda (Ok, very) new at this. Thanks.
