    Encoding and burning problems

I currently purchased an Emprex dvd 8x burner..... I have a brand new computer with 120gb hard drive, AMD 2800+ processor and 768mb of ram. My computer is very quick... However, whenever burning through Nero my computer only encodes at 1300kb/s and is taking around an hour and a half per dvd, and it takes another hour and a half to burn.... My buddy has an emprex 4x burner and it takes him only 45 minutes total to encode and burn a dvd, and his computer isnt near as fast as mine.....

I attempted updating Nero... However, whenever i updated it to the latest version, whenever i clicked on backup in DVD SHRINK my dvd burner would eject the disc, thus i was unable to encode the dvd. also, there are firmware upgrades available for my burner, however whenever i attempt to upgrade, an Error message appears stating that there is a problem with the flash type.....

Please let me know if there is anything i can do to increase the encoding and burning speeds... Thanx a lot guys!!!!

Also, whenever I am burning my CD's, my CPU usage is not at 100%, it is usually down towards 30% for some reason...... but when encoding it is usually running around 100%... THANX AGAIN EVERYONE!!! Any tips would be great.......

Enable DMA on IDE Chanel's. Check in device manager.
