    OGG files

okay i got these music files my computer, it recognizes them as mp3 files, but Probebly becuse of winamp. Thats my player. But anyway i wanna put these songs on my mp3 player. but i think becuse of the files [OGG] it won't let me. i wanna convert them but i'm having some difficulties. I'd like to either make them vail mp3 files or turn them into .wav files. which if i can avoid doing but w/e just so i can put them on my mp3 player. it won't accept them. it's really weird. what software might i use to do this any1 know?

I would recommend oggDropXPd (you can get it at http://rarewares.org/ ) -> just drop your ogg file onto the fish, et voilà!

Hi BoF, nice fishing trip, is there a setting that converts it to mp3 as opposed to wav file in the options area, or is it just wav file. tyvm in advance.

Plenty of apps that can convert ogg vorbis to mp3 such as foobar 2000 or dbPowerAmp. They will also transfer the tags ogg-->id3.

Few things though. It is ogg or Ogg, not OGG and there is no such thing as an ogg codec. Ogg is a container and requires a parser. Vorbis is the audio codec used, although ogg can also contain flac or speex audio.

Your DAP doesn't support ogg vorbis though? Because it is better to avoid lossy recompression if possible.

Along this line, before I reformatted I had a certain "program" that allowed me to play OGG files on Windows Media Player.

Any idea where I can get something like that now?

Be nice if these mp3 players would just recognize various formats like WMP can as well as WinAmp.

                    Here..I will fix it!

i use dbpoweramp myself as mentioned by celtic, it's free, does a nice job and i'm quite sure you need to install the ogg vorbis codec for it (same site). i did.

curious now, would belight be able to do this? no files like this on my machine now to try

For WMP (and other dshow players) there are several options. You have Tobias' splitter (built in vorbis decoder), Gabest's splitter (needs a seperate decoder, but MPC includes one anyway), Radlight's filters (includes a decoder) and illiminable's filters (also includes a decoder). For standalone vorbis decoders you have corevorbis, ffdshow and mpadecfilter from MPC. All of the above can handle ogg vorbis files, although Gabest's and Tobias' filters are strickly speaking ogm parsers. They don't handle speex, theora, or flac.

Oh, almost forgot, Haali's splitter can also handle ogg files. I'd suggest a proper audio player such as foobar2k though. If you have an iPod you might want to check out RockBox.
