    Error Downloading Codec

    I got "Error Downloading Codec" while I am trying to play the video clip in Windows Media Player.

    Someone mentions that I might not have the right codec installed for the movie.

    How can I fix this problem? Thanks.

    Assuming the clip is an .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise), in order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

        You require the DivX v.5.1.1 video codec and an .AC3 audio codec. You might also want to download and install the multi-faceted FFDShow Filter...

          Thanks for your help. Now I can play the movie without a problem.
          BTW, do I still need to install the multi-faceted FFDShow filter?

            My pleasure ;>}

            It won't hurt anything to do so - but it will certainly help with other videos you may come across. I'd suggest that you download it, but not install it presently. Should you have a "problem video" down the line, install the FFDShow Filter - as it makes a lot of videos playable...
