How to convert WMV 5.1 Sound?

How do you extract 5.1 Sound content from a .wmv file? Preferably to something that i can use in Vegas or ac3.

You may have to convert the WMV file an AVI/mpeg before being able to demux the audio stream from it.

Using what software? I've been looking for software that extracts the 5.1 Channels, but the ones that i've tried only reads the downmixed version.

It's a wmv file containing a 15 second logo intro, 5.1 sound. After a HD failure i can't retrieve the master, i only have the .wmv that i put up online and i need it back into Vegas or straight into ac3.

"TMPGEnc" or "TMPGEnc Plus” should accept the WMV for conversion to mpeg 1 or 2.

What format would the 5.1 sound stream be encoded in?
As far as i know, the mp2 audio compression only supports two channels. Are you saying that "TMPGEnc" preserves the 5.1 Sound stream? According to the wizard of "TMPGEnc" it only supports PCM or MP2. I have no problem with importing the video, i just get a downmixed version of the 5.1 audio stream with it. If you perhaps know any app that splits the stream up into six files, each one corresponding to a channel, i'd most appreciate it..

I could extract a working multichannel wav file with the canopus procoder 2 but i cant work further witz these files even if they work correctly. How could i pack them again in a (working) ac3 file? What can be wrong here, the head?

Do you mean one file or 3 or 6 files?

My solution:

1.Extract a multichannel wav or PCM with the Canopus Procoder2
2. Split the file into 6 wavs with Steinberg Nuendo (2)
3. Merge it with any AC3 or DTS encoder

It just works
