    Burning Question!!!

I'm using the newest version of Shrink and everything seems to work fine as far as the ripping part goes. Shrink seems to do its job and decodes and shrinks my DVDs to "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO-TS" files on my hard drive. And, those files seem to work great when played on my computer's DVD player (WinDVD).

The problem comes when buring the files to a DVD+R. I'm not sure I'm doing it right. Do I simply treat the "TS" files like any other type of data and simply burn them to a disc? I did that and it burned well, but wont play on a DVD player that I know is compatible. Am I doing this correctly?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Does the BURNED DVD play on your PC (Played as a "DVD", NOT as individual .VOBs)? If it does, then the problem is with the standalone player's interaction with the burned media.

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

Well, it appears my burned disk is read as VOB files rather than a DVD, but I'm really not sure. I do know for sure the disc contents are as follows:

Main Folder (SW II -- AOTC)

      Subfolder (AUDIO_TS)
No files contained in this subfolder

      Subfolder (VIDEO_TS)
      Contains VOB and IFO files

What program are you using to burn your disc? If it's Nero be sure you have the lastest version.

"Main Folder (SW II -- AOTC)"

This CANNOT exist on a properly burned DVD!

You should have NO "main folder" - ONLY "Audio_TS" and "VIDEO_TS" folders.

You should use a burning program that provides for burning a "DVD-Video", not merely "data"...

Yes, you must burn as a DVD-Video disk. If you usa a data disk format you will have problems. Then put all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder, with NO subfolders.

Thanks to all of you for your help. However, my burning program (Sonic Record Now!) doesn't offer a "video" burn option. So, I tried burning just the "AUDIO_ TS" and "VIDEO_TS" folders w/appropriate files as a "data" disk. Only one burn so far, but it seems to work perfectly...in fact, unbelievable quality!!!

Was this a fluke, or should this process work the same for all future burns?

Also, what's the difference between a "video" and "data" disk? I would think not much as long as all of the info contained on each disk is the same. But then again, I don't know much!

              Thanks again for your help.

I'd feel more comfortable using a program with a Video disk mode, particularly Nero. However I'd expect you'll get the same results if you keep doing things they way you did this time.

Something to consider is whether you need this disk to work on a wide range of DVD players or just the one you're using now. IE this format may not work at your friend's house. I believe some of the identifying headers on the disk will be different if you use data mode, most likely resulting in limited compatibility with different players.

Good point about compatibility issues...I'll try a different burner program with "video" format, like Nero, just to be safe.

                      hi there,

i've seen this thread and it seems that i have the same problem. now i have nero6 ultra edition and i tried to create a dvd-video (as appears i nero menu...). i already have a back-up of a movie, and the back-up has been made with dvd shrink. now, i try to move the files from the place where i have the back-up, and i don't know where to put those files. all of them must be in video_ts ? how about audio_ts, this folder must be empty ? in the folder i have .bup, .ifo and .vob extensions, where shoud i put them ???

on the other hand, i have a LG dvd-writer and i tried to burn some bulk dvd-r raxon, and the speed of those dvd's is 2x. every time i want to burn anything i get an error (even if i specify 2x speed or i let the settings at 4x).

can you help me ... ?

                      thank you.

Everything goes in the VIDEO_TS folder, no subfolders. AUDIO_TS should be empty.

What kind of error are you getting?

                          Looks like this :

                          - DVD-Video files reallocation started
                          - DVD-Video files reallocation completed completed (no file modified)
                          - DVD-Video files sorted
                          - Caching of files started
                          - Caching of files completed
                          - Burn process started at 2x (2770 KB/s)
                          - Write error
                          - Write error
                          - Could not perform end of Disc-at-once
                          - Burn process failed at 2x (2770 KB/s)

I tried several times and there is the same message. Do you think this might appear because of the dvd's ???

                          Thank's.

Make sure you have the latest version of Nero. See if Nero recognizes the disk as a blank and what kind of info it gives you. Try some different disks if you can.

Are you able to burn anything? Data CD, Data DVD, etc?

I have Nero 6.3.1.17. I think is one of the latest versions, isn't it ?
I inserted a blank disk and I asked for "Disc info". It says that is DVD-R, Total capacity : 0MB, Available capacity : 4.489MB, "This disk is empty". So I understand that Nero saw the disk and it's ok.

I managed to burn a lots of CD's and without any problem ! I did't try to burn data on DVD. Should I try ?

                              Thank's a lot.
