focus or tracking erro

i am new to backing up dvd's and this forum but here is my problem. i have no problem backin up my own dvd's and my friends dvd's but whenever i try to backup movies i rent (i know its illegal) i have no problem enconding them with dvdshrink 3.2 but when i comes time to burning i always get an error message that says focus or tracking error then the burn process will fail. and it never even writes to the blank dvd. i have the newest version nero. i am using a toshiba m35 s4561 computer (i dont know the exact name of the drive) can someone out there please help me
