    New Hard drive

    Hello All,

I have a Dell 8200 Dimensionm, Windows XP just installed a maxtor 120GB HD, The problem, when I click o MY COMPUTER, i do not see the drive, The C drive is the master and the new HD is the Slave. What ever you reply you send, Please send it to me in the format of Computers for Dummies, I know nothing about seting up a HD, Everyone say its easy, look Rocket science.... and Brain Surgery.... are easy if you know how to do it. I await your answer.

first, check the manual of both your hard drives, and it should tell you how to arrange the pins on the back of your drive so it becomes "master", and do the same for your other drive, making it "slave". then search through google on how to install them... if i tried to explain it here, without pictures, it will confuse you even more

anyway, wrong forum what does installing hard drives have to do with digital video?

Try the slave jumper position at the back of the new drive and use the end plug of your ribbon cable for C and the middle one for D.

Refer to the manufacturers' web sites for help as it doesn't sound like you have done any partitioning or formatting.

If you are eventually going to use your new fast drive as C for installing Windows and other junk, you might want to make a seperate large partition (say 80 Mb) just for video data as you need to keep video space unfragmented.

I have not long ago added another maxtor drive to my system.

If the jumper setting is on cable select on your master drive then it should also be the same position for your slave.

        Cable select, says it all.

Check the instructions on your new drive installation manual.

I would just guess that a hard drive is essential to all the Digital-Digest subjects. Specialy when it comes to video and the way it gobles up GB's on any drive.
