Video to PC capture/conversion advice needed

    Hello,

I was hoping that one of you video gurus could provide me with some guidance or recommendation.

I would like to find a product that would allow me to take two security cameras with what is listed as "BNC" video connectors that I own and input the signal into my computer for real time video recording/captures. It is important that I be able to have my PC record from both cameras simultaneously. Does anyone know of an inexpensive video capture card with two "BNC" inputs or any other type of converter that will allow me to do the same? If possible I'd like to spend less than $75 but due to my lack of knowledge on the subject I may just be fooling myself that such a inexpensive solution exists.

    Thanks in advance

The simple camera to capture card adaptors are available in electronics shops for 3 or 4 usd/euro or 2 or 3 gbp. Get the correct male or female bnc to phono adaptor. I think the cameras assume an impedance of 50 ohms and I haven't a clue what the composite phono input of a video capture card is matched to. A search of a more electronics orientated site will probably help.
If the camera terminal is a short tube with 2 pins on the outside it needs a bnc male to phono adaptor, if it's a metal ring with an inner circular aperture you want a female to phono adaptor. Often the male plug is on the equipment and the female end is on the connecting cable.

If you want to connect 2 cameras then you might consider a dedicated security switcher which would have a phone conector for a vcr (or a capture card) and bnc connectors for the cameras. They cost from about 60 usd for switching units, but up to several hundered for "all at once" units.
