    Disc labeling

    Hello all,

I recently purchased some 'three on a sheet' CD label paper from a local company DCData. I also bought their own label software (which isn't great) as the layout is to their own design and the app's I use (Mediaface or Nero Cover) don't support it.
Does anyone know this paper and if it is possible to create/import a template for it into either of the app's mentioned (pref Mediaface). The labels are the full face (up to the spindle) type.

The labels would be very good value, if I could use them properly, so any help would be great.

    Thanks

    Hello again,

If this thread is in the wrong place (or anyone knows of a more suitable place/forum, please let me know).
I think the ideal solution to my problem would be the ability to create my own templates for mediaface. Is this possible??
    Please help!!

    Thanks

I would suggest that you do a search (button at top of page) on the subject of disc and labels. I think you're going to find that most people DO NOT recomend using labels, and with reason.

Hmmm... interesting points. I had wondered if an off- centre label might cause enough of an out of balance wobble to give the laser a hard time. Maybe it could even cause mechanical prob's to the drive due to excess vibration?

Think I'll forget labelling DVD movie backups (with heavy gloss photo paper labels!?!) but I might still use some light plain paper labels on my data CDs.

Does anyone have opinions/advice on direct disc printing?
Epson R200s are quite cheap now - any good?
Can direct printing harm the disc/data and are any printable DVDs any good?

I've been using 4X Ridiscs with reliable results and I think these are available as printable for a little more cash. Are the printables as good as the standard Ridiscs?

Sorry post is so long - I get carried away (by men in white coats).

You've made a good desision not to use labels!!! They WILL eventually cause a problem with playback...as you stated the vibration due to a high spin speed and a slightly off centre lable will create lock ups and freezes. The extra weight of the label will also have the same effect.
I don't do direct disc printing, but by all accounts this is fine in terms of having no effect on the playback of the DVD.

            Thanks for the response Phil44.
Anyone have any feedback about the Epson R200 and/or printable discs (particularly Ridiscs)?

            Cheers

                Hello again,

LABELS!! - why did I bother? I've been using my new R200 for a few days now and it is a revelation. Fast, smooth, quiet and beautifully printed CDs and DVDs.

I do have one final question on the subject - does anyone have any advice on the use (or not) of inkjet fixing spray?
I know that the printed finish of a CD can smudge, even when thoroughly dry, if handled with wet/sticky/sweaty fingers.
As my six year old's fingers are usually one or all of these, smudging is inevitable.

I've seen the spray at Blankdiscshop and just wonder if it's any good? Also, is it simply an ordinary lacquer in a fancy aerosol? My local art shop stocks acrylic fixing lacquer. Is it the same stuff?

                Thanks in advance

                  er hello

Bigin it up for da R200/300. Like TINA sang, Simply the Best...

                  Fixing spray?

The original ink for the Epson is supposed to be smuge/fade resistant for a 100years or something silly like that.

If you gonna use fixing sprays just to give it that PRO finish then make sure the DVD/CD is not going to get any over-spray on the reading surface.

The acrylic fixing spray might not be designed to work with inkjet ink type thing.

I would stick to the right stuff.

(I find it extremely difficult to type wearing a long-sleeved with leather strap jacket, specialy when my hands are crossed and behind my back)
