DivX Encoding - Interlaced source file help

Just a question, I'm trying to encode a DVD movie, I've already ripped the VOB files and IFO files, and using FlaskMpeg 0.6 preview 1.1 to encode the video into DivX format (using DivX 4.12 codecs).
Problem is the Video is Interlaced, and De-interlacing directly from FlaskMpeg slows down the encoding process dramatically. (Doubling the time need!!!!)
Can I not De-Interlace in FlaskMpeg, and do it using VirtualDub instead?, would this give me the same video quality as if I was using the FlaskMpeg De-interlace option?.
Because I noticed VirtualDub handles De-interlace much faster then FlaskMpeg can.
Can anyone answer this question ?,
or can someone tell me an alternative to encoding interlaced videos that would give me te same quality but less the time?

It would make no sense to encode the source into an interlaced DivX file and then reencoding it in vdub with the deinterlacing filter applied. That would take much longer than if you had enabled deinterlacing in Flask. Also, Flask actually, in my experience, makes it hard to deinterlace interlaced materials, so I recommend you not to use Flask.

Read the guide on frameserving with DVD2AVI and download Smart Deinterlacer filter (the one that works well for me so far, until I find something truly better) from http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters. If you haven't used Vdub/nandub for encoding video, there are plenty of guides available. I'm sure, once you learn to use them, you'll not want to look back at Flask. Admittedly, Flask is a very nice and easy-to-use DVD->DivX encoding package though.
