    Problems with DVDShrink and Nero

    Hi everybody.
I have been using DVD Shrink to copy some DVDs, but sometimes they get to 1% ( Burning ) or sometimes to 21% ( Burning ) then the computer locks up. I have tried different media brands, also tried a different computer, different software but same burner. I have upgraded the firmware for my burner ( Creative ) and also have upgraded Nero. Here is what is happening. When I click backup and select the burner I don't get the option to change DVD writer speed, only maximum. I think the problem is the speed. The burner is 8x and I have tried to use 4X and 8X media but still. Now sometimes it works fine. Another question : If I decode a movie to the HD why does it have to go to the whole decoding process again if I try to burn it using DVD Shrink, now I tried to burn it using nero but my DVD player does not recognize them, I even bought a new DVD player, and exchange it for another one just thinking it was the DVD player but is not. I can see the content on the DVD on my PC but is not playable. I am using the default settings on Nero. I would really appreciate any help that you guys can give me on this.

"I am using the default settings on Nero."

Set NERO to "DVD-Video" mode - and put ALL DVD-related files into the RED "VIDEO_TS" folder.

they should both produce the same results.
Have a look and see if there is a firmware update for your burner.

copy dvd in Nero.. losing gigs afterward

When I look at my available space in D drive after I copy a dvd in Nero it has dropped significantly. I've done the obvious searches in temp files in both C and D and spent 1-3 hours looking for something to no avial. It drops by 3-10 gigs after copies. I am making direct copies in a new Sony DVD drawer or whatsits. If I need to post more info I don't know what it would be.

                  Hello

Dont use the overburn option for CD/DVD format.

                  this may help.

                  Good things

I understand the word overburn but I've never seen it in the process of copying a dvd. So I don't believe I've ever used it.

The reason I go to Nero instead of dvdshrink is that these are discs I've made on the big stand alone dvd writer which is connected to copy from other dvd or cable tv or vhs. So I made compilation discs of maybe 2 hrs of a fave star on dvd+r. Then put it in puter to copy. Shrink says it doesn't recognize the format or ?? so I use Nero. Nero works fine but subtracts gigs from my hard drive where shrink does not.
I keep thinking the gigs have to be somewhere and search till I'm just plain mad but never find anything.

                    Thoughts???

If you have Norton then empty the "Norton" recycle bin:

I empty the recycle bin more than once a day.

What I'm getting from the urls, a discussion by others of the same topic, is that Norton keeps something, I know not what, for days and then deletes it. That would account for some of my gigs popping back up again days later. The word protected is used frequently.

If that's the case, that Norton keeps hidden files for some time then deletes them, my question is... after I make a Nero dupe and see the drive has dropped a few gigs, is there a 1-2-3 steps to find the hidden stuff and dump it RIGHT NOW? Wouldn't this get me back my missing gigs?

And thank you. I do appreciate all the answers and help. I think we're closing in on the real solution.

                            Never Stop Learning

                            Hey All,

Talk about never stop learning, thanks for the titbit on where Shrink hides the analysis. I also found a few other programmes hide there stuff in the same area as well.

Things you pickup when you swan around the forum.

Thanks for the tips and keep them coming.

                              Igha,
I clicked on that and it says file is no longer there... BUT I think it said to go to Norton, right click, properties, protection tab, unselect Enable Protection (for each drive) and apply. There is also a line that said Empty Protected Files which I hit.

I tested it with the evil Ulead program which had subtracted gigs never to be seen again. There was no difference in before and after. Yeeeeeeehhaaaawwwww!! I will also make a Nero copy but I think we've got it.
I think with your help it's Problem Solved!
As for where Shrink hides the analysis, isn't that a choice you can make, where to send it? I send mine to a well known file I have and can find easily. Then I go there and delelete and delete from Norton bin. That's the only part that has NOT been a problem.

Another big time thank you for your suggestions, patience, help.
