    capturing/editing PAL format DV tapes

I just got a bunch of PAL format DV tapes in that need to be captured and edited. I have worked with PAL format tapes before using a Sony camera here, but its an NTSC camera and we have all sorts of problems. It wont capture in Adobe Premiere, only in Windows Movie Maker....and once we get the raw capture the quality loss is significant (lower frame rate) and its a pain in the ass to edit (wont work with my matrox editing suite).

My question is, if we get an actual PAL video camera (probably have to order it from Europe) will this solve the problem? I wont need to get new editing software too, correct? (Adobe Premiere has an option for opening PAL projects.) Any particular cameras you recommend? I will only be using it for capture so i dont need anything too top of the line. Any and all help is appreciated.

Why would you need a CAMERA for capture and edit work? Both activities should be accomplished via computer.

What you need for your (if I remember correctly) pornographic PAL tapes is either a PAL format or dual (PAL and NTSC) format DVD player...

Huh? I have PAL format DV TAPES. Not PAL format DVD discs. They are raw tapes shot by a PAL format camera in Europe. What would a PAL format DVD player help me accomplish exactly?

And yes, they are for adult websites, so you remembered correctly.

Sorry, I meant to say PAL or dual format VCR - and to make matters worse, I overlooked the "DV" in your reference to "DV tapes.

So, all in all, forget my initial posting here...

          help as well!!!

I have a Sony Digitsal Handycam in a Pal Dv format.
I moved to Canada from Australia and I have been going through this conversion thing and it is driving me nuts.

I just got a program DVStandards Converter v.1.5 which converts the Pal to NTSC.

BUT!! I want to play my movies on my DVD player over here. Region 1

It works ok but I am still trying to work out the settings as the conversion is not perfect for my liking.

If anyone knows the specs for the DVStandards Converter V.1.5 it would be helpful. I'm not up on the time resampling and how the interlace features work. Codecs etc.

And I do want to fine tune this. The playback on the DVD player is Jittery and not smoth at all. Quality is lost too.

I have tried puremotion as well but the sound is bad. I get a sharp bleep through the video.

Ive tried to capure this in Avi. and Mpeg formats

Or is there an easier way or programs that convert pal to ntsc for DVD burning?

          I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
