Where and how to save all my Hi8 videos.

I am totally new to this. I started copying my 60 some tapes of Hi8 digital to my PC. I plan on doing some editing and need to get all my home movies to cds I guess or DVDs or buy a much MUCH bigger hard drive. I use Ulead video studio 7 to capture them from my Hi8 digital camera. I have a 100 GB second hard drive, but each tape is taking up around 15 GB. I tried to start saving them to DVDs as AVI files, but I can not get the whole file on the DVD.

With so many tapes to save, How would you save them so they are easy to acces to edit parts and make a movie? I want to keep the original quallity when saving.

    Thanks for any help!!!!

Compress the .AVIs, using some of the free tools (and tutorials) at:

Compress the (Uncompressed) .AVIs to DivX-compressed .AVIs. They could be 4 to 10 times smaller...

(If I meant MPEG-2, I would have said CONVERT and COMPRESS)
